About the Artist
SCOTT PETTY has spent a lifetime pursuing diverse career paths and interests. Commercial construction, home renovation, and landscaping businesses made up the early part of his career. After 20 years, he made the (radical) switch to the teaching profession, spending the next 24 years in Special Education. During this time he led many young people in learning the skills needed to work in the building trades, as well as guiding them through their high school years.
Meanwhile, Scott developed two equally contrasting passions: pastel painting and fly fishing. In fact many of his paintings have their inspiration in the landscapes and vistas experienced while “standing in a river shaking a stick.” He began painting, thanks to the encouragement and support of his lifelong friend Bill Herring, about 15 years ago.

Artist Statement
I love to paint, and I love color. Using the open color technique, I hope to express the beauty I find in nature with an imaginative twist. Who says a moose can’t be orange? We recognize a familiar form and experience it anew when color is used for its own sake. Experimenting with this idea can be frustrating, is always challenging, and in the end rewarding. Each piece is a learning experience, which keeps me inspired and eager for the next one.
