Washington On The Brazos State Historic Site | Living History Saturday: Stitching Up Liberty

In 1844, 180 years ago this year, Anson Jones was inaugurated as the last President of the Republic of Texas. He is often referred to as the architect of Annexation, Texas’ move to becoming the 28th state of the United States. Ladies of the period were often in charge of flag sewing and design, and as part of this program you can join a sewing circle as they sew a 28-star U.S. flag. Join us in throwing a stitch in a flag that we’ll fly over Washington-on-the-Brazos in coming years or explore the different stitches used to construct an 1840s flag through hands-on activities!
