The Stranger Unity Theatre

The Stranger by Agatha Christie | Unity Theatre

Unity Theatre continues its 2025–2026 Main Stage season with The Stranger, a gripping mystery by Agatha Christie, running April 23 through May 10, 2026. This suspenseful psychological thriller explores love, deception, and the chilling realization that the person you trust most may not be who they seem.

Enid has spent seven years engaged to a dependable but uninspiring fiancé, and she cannot help wondering if life holds something more exciting. When she meets the handsome and charismatic Gerald Strange, she is instantly captivated. Sharing her longing for adventure, Gerald sweeps Enid into a whirlwind romance that promises the passion and excitement she has been missing. Soon she leaves behind her home, her friends, and the life she once knew to begin a new chapter with her mysterious new husband in a secluded country cottage. But before long, Enid begins to sense that something is terribly wrong, and she discovers, to her growing horror, that things are not what they appear to be.

Agatha Christie is widely regarded as one of the greatest mystery writers of all time. Her works have sold over two billion copies worldwide and have been translated into more than one hundred languages, making her one of the most widely read authors in history. Her play The Mousetrap, which opened in London’s West End in 1952, holds the record as the longest-running play in the world. Unity Theatre audiences may remember the company’s production of The Mousetrap during the 2022–2023 Main Stage season.

Although Christie is best known for iconic detectives such as Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, she also wrote a number of suspenseful stage thrillers. The Stranger is one of her lesser known theatrical works, offering audiences a tightly wound psychological mystery in which suspense grows from the unsettling question of whether the person closest to you can truly be
trusted.
