Summer Art Camps

The Arts Council is excited to host summer camps from June 6th through July 11th 2022! Two sessions will be available each day, one in the morning from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and one in the afternoon from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM.  

 

Session 1: "Spark Your CreARTive Monster" with Jami Bevans: June 6 - 10, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Come learn ways to tap into your creativity while exploring various art genres. We'll create our own wild beasts using Maurice Sendak for inspiration while also looking at the work of Pablo Picasso, Jean Michael Basquiat, M.C. Escher, etc. Projects will include pastel line prints, collage, paper mache bobble heads and more. The age group for this class is 9-12.

Session 2: TBD: June 6 - 10, 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM

 

Session 3: "Basics of Non-Traditional Printmaking" with Dakota Rogers: June 13 - 17, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Students will learn the artistic process of transferring images from a matrix onto another surface using unconventional methods including collagraphy, monotypes, and image transfers. The age group for this class is 9 and up. Adults are welcome as well.

Session 4: "Collage and Alternative Processes" with Dakota Rogers: June 13 - 17, 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM

  • Students will learn processes for creating different styles of collages. The age group for this class is 9 and up. Adults are welcome as well.

Session 5: "Gouache around the Globe" with Kelsey Boe: June 20 - 24, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Students will learn gouache while painting a new scene from around the world every day. The age group for this class is 7-13.

Session 6: TBD: June 20 - 24, 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM

 

Session 7: "Express Yourself" with Christine Holton: June 27 - 30, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

  • The Main Ideas of Expressionist Art are about capturing emotions and feelings using bright colors and exaggerating forms and spaces. This week campers will create art using self-expression to guide them, and learn about artists who used these tools to make inspiring, expressive art including collage, sculpture, and action painting! The age group for this class is 6-10.

Session 8: "Loose Watercolor Florals" with Beth Symons: June 27 - 30, 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM

  • Learn how to create soft and whimsical floral paintings using watercolors! We'll go over washes, brush strokes, and other useful techniques for creating beautiful flowers. The age group for this class is 7 and up.

Session 9: "Innovators/Heroes" with Christine Holton: July 5 - 8 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM 

  • This week campers will explore innovative and new ideas from outside-the-box artists! They will create multi-media art inspired by artists who made unusual art and had new ideas for their time, exploring fun, new materials and inventing new styles and creations in groups as well as pioneering their own! The age group for this class is 6-10.

Session 10: "Comic Creations" with Kelsey Boe: July 5 - 8, 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM (Off July 4 for Holiday) 

  • Create a classic comic strip alongside artist Kelsey Boe as you learn the components of visual storytelling, character, settings, and more while studying the work of classic cartoonists! The age group for this class is 7-13.

Session 11: "Happy Little Artists" with Kelsey Boe: July 11 - 15, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Acrylic landscapes in a "Bob Ross" style. The age group for this class is 7-13.

Session 12: "Painting Workshop" with Sara Jordan: July 11 - 15, 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM

  • Come explore color theory and various painting techniques with watercolor, gouache, tempera, mono-prints, and acrylic paints! As you learn to mix colors, add textures and effects, and learn the differences and uses for the various mediums, you will apply these techniques and create paintings of a still life, landscapes, contour portrait, monoprint with watercolor, and mixed media. The age group for this class is 8-18.
