The question “what were you wearing?” is often one of the first things asked of survivors of sexual assault and harrassment. If only ending sexual violence was as easy as changing your clothes. This exhibition asks us to understand that it is not about the clothing, and the act of shedding those clothes is never enough to bring peace or comfort to survivors. What Were You Wearing? will display clothes worn by survivors along with their personal stories. This exhibition requires all of us to evaluate the reasons we ask, “what were you wearing?” in the first place. Clothing submissions will be accepted fall 2019.
