Red Wasp Film Festival History
The Red Wasp Film Festival began in 2003. Founders Carol and Craig Conlee first held the festival at 7F Lodge in Wellborn, TX. Originally, the festival was held outdoors during the springtime, and red wasps would frequently pester the guests. In an attempt to bring humor to the situation, the Conlee’s decided to name the festival after the pests, hence the name Red Wasp Film Festival. In 2006, Brazos Progressives partnered with Carol and Craig, and the festival moved to downtown Bryan, TX.
In 2014, The Arts Council assumed management of the festival. Each year the festival grows more popular and attracts larger crowds and more interesting films. The Arts Council hopes to expand the festival so that many more film lovers will be able to enjoy artistic and innovative films in the Brazos Valley for many years to come!
